Fall Semester '08

We are looking forward to the start of a new school year and all of the anticipation and excitement that a new year brings.  This fall we will be doing a bible study titled, "The Real Jesus."  We will continue our fellowship groups and offer some other small group bible studies.  In addition we are planning several fun activities including a pool party, guys and gals night out, a barn dance, game nights and we are also working on a handful of service project ideas.  The best way to find out about RUF is to come to one of our activities.  We have a lot going on in the first few weeks of school so you will want to check out our Calendar of Events as soon as possible.  No matter where you are in your spiritual journey we invite you to join us as we seek to understand what it means to follow Christ together.

Fellowship Groups

Last semester we are started fellowship groups at RUF.  We struggled to find a good name for these groups; Life groups, Community Groups, Discussion Groups and Home groups were a few of the names that we considered.  In the end I (Brad) decided that despite the fact that the word fellowship has negative connotations for many it is a part of our name (Reformed University Fellowship), so it seemed to be a good time to redeem the word for those with aversions to it (incidentally I am one of them).  I think a good definition of the word fellowship might be: relating to one another in a manner that encourages us to be more and more like Jesus.

We want these groups to be places of community and conversation.  In these groups we want you to wrestle through spiritual issues together that you might know the Lord and one another more deeply.  Over time we hope these groups become safe places for you to be vulnerable with your life struggles confident that you will not be rejected and judged, but rather accepted, supported, and encouraged to begin or continue following Jesus in the midst of life’s hardships.  These groups will be led by fellow students and will usually work through questions based on the Tuesday night talks.  We will assign interested people into groups  of 8-15 people so that they will be as diverse as we can make them; including both men and women, freshman and upperclassman, tall and short, blue eyes and brown eyes… I digress, but you get the point.  Some groups will meet on Sunday nights and one group will meet on Thursday night.  Currently we are planning for all groups to meet in the houses or apartments of students around 8 PM.  IF you are interested (this doesn’t mean you are committing to join a group) please email me (Brad – brogers@ruf.org) and I will be in touch with you.
