What is RUF?
“Reformed” refers to our biblical and historical understanding of Christianity as expressed in the Reformation. At the heart of the reformation was the idea "semper reformenda" meaning always reforming. We believe that we are in contant need of being reformed by Jesus as He is revealed in the Bible. We believe Jesus is the truth and that He can be known. Many claim that truth is relative and unknowable (and we invite dialogue here); we, however, work from the conviction that the Bible is true, accessible, and a sovereign God’s revelation of himself to every person. Within RUF you have the freedom to wrestle with God’s word and witness God’s work. As you interact with Christ, through the Bible, our hope is that you will love and embrace him as the truth. The possibility of knowing God intimately, practically and eternally is realized in Christ’s sacrifice on our behalf. Jesus’s life and death accomplished for us what we could never do: Our relationship with God is restored and maintained in him alone, by faith and through grace. Thus, we live our lives with hope and responsibility granted to us by grace.
UNIVERSITY
RUF exists to reach students for Christ and equip them to serve. It is our aim to be a ministry for the campus, and not simply a ministry on the campus. We encourage you to engage in campus life and to serve the university community. Our intention is to strengthen your faith and calling as you realize the glory of God in Christ. Practically speaking you have the opportunity to glorify God in all you do, from friendships and community to academics and worship. Furthermore, we believe your calling is to live all of life under the rule and reign of Christ. Christ’s authority grants us complete liberty in the gospel to perceive, work and enjoy God for the remainder of our lives into eternity.
FELLOWSHIP
We were created for relationship and we long for connection, yet we experience alienation from God and each other. This longing exposes an inherent mystery and truth, that we were created in the image of God. We live in an individualistic culture, and this lifestyle is contrary to the gospel of Jesus Christ. The gospel is realized in a community of people who, although broken, long to trust and depend on one another. RUF cultivates community through our campus fellowship, which consists of personal relationships, small group interaction and involvement in large group meetings. Through these venues we strive for a deeper understanding of the Bible, worship, prayer and the delight of fellowship. We exist as ministry sent by the broader church, of which we are a part.
